District Development #6- This covers the week from December 16, 2017 - January 5, 2018. It provides a recap of the major events happening in each district that we feel the members need to be aware of/kept up to date. This article covers Baton Rouge, the Southwest District (Lafayette & Lake Charles), New Orleans, and the Northwest Region. BATON ROUGE: AGC leadership recently met with the Downtown Develop District (DDD) in Baton Rouge to look at a new ordinance being proposed for utility markings. Current law states that locating contractors must use water soluble paint, but it has been discovered that this is not happening. The DDD is proposing that the locate markings must be removed off of the sidewalk/streets by the locating contractor at the conclusion of the project if they do now disappear naturally. The locating contractors are asking that the General Contractor on the job to remove them at the conclusion of construction. Louisiana AGC is currently seeking feedback from our members to see if this is something we are willing to take on. If not, AGC will continue to push for the locating contractor to remove the markings if they do not disappear naturally through weather events. Starting at the beginning of the month the Louisiana AGC headquarters office moved to 7389 Florida Blvd., Suite #200C to allow construction to begin on our North St. office. We are fully functional out of our temporary location and even having training space for about 20 if any local members need space to use. We are excited about the construction and look forward to moving back downtown towards the end of the year. In the wake of the planning session that many of you joined in on last year, we will be looking to make changes to better serve the needs of the changing construction landscape. We are looking at having our first district meeting of the year sometime in the first week of February. As soon as the date is set I will let everyone know so stay tuned. Everyone take care and I will see y’all soon. For additional information please contact David Landreneau at davidl@lagc.org LAKE CHARLES: Happy New Year. First, we'd like to welcome our new District Officers. Jeff Quebedeaux and Brett Ruppel have been chosen as a part of the team that will highlight and shape the conversation around pertinent district events and news. We look forward to their contribution in moving the district and AGC Louisiana forward. In New Orleans we are looking forward to building the relationship with Marcie Edwards of SWBNO to ensure her time at the helm of this department is effective and positively impacts our industry. Additionally, conversation with Mayor Elect Cantrell is on going. We will have input into the direction the upcoming administration looks to lead the departments that affect our business. 2018 is full of promise and growth. In New Orleans and throughout the state, AGC is determined to work hard to protect and ensure good practices to benefit the local construction industry.
