District Development #8- This covers the week from January 19, 2018 - February 9, 2018. It provides a recap of the major events happening in each district that we feel the members need to be aware of/kept up to date. This article covers Baton Rouge, the Southwest District (Lafayette & Lake Charles), New Orleans, and the Northwest Region. BATON ROUGE: Last week Louisiana AGC held our 9th Annual Critical Issues Summit at the Hilton in Downtown Baton Rouge. The event was a tremendous success with over 230 registrations and a record crowd at our Happy Hour social overlooking the Mississippi River. As we turn the page on the Summit please mark your calendars for our upcoming Golf Tournament to be held at the University Club on Monday, March 26th. Registration can be completed online by going to our Golf Tournament Page. We are excited to once again raise funds for the local chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. We have several local members with direct ties to Type 1 Diabetes and we are privileged to have them onboard as our Charity of choice. In addition to our Golf Tournament, we have new training courses that are fast approaching. On March 27th we will be holding a course on Hiring For Success followed by an Effective Presentations course the very next day. More information and registration can be found online. For additional information please contact Michael Demouy at: 225-344-0432 or email: michaeld@lagc.org LAFAYETTE: We are fresh off the heels of the Critical Issues Summit and just had our first quarterly meeting. A lot of good information was put out in the meeting and as usual the food was great. The 100th AGC National Convention is coming up in 2 weeks and is being hosted by LAGC. The convention is in New Orleans and if you haven’t registered yet, it’s not too late. Let me know if anyone is interested in attending and we will get you registered right away. It should be a great party and LAGC is as excited as can be to be hosting the 100th party. Mark your calendars! The annual LAGC Crawfish Boil is Thursday, April 12th. It will be held at the KC Hall in Scott just as it was last year. We had a great turnout last year and we hope to grow this event and make it bigger and better every year. Hope to see you all there. Have a Happy and Safe Mardi Gras. For additional information please contact David Landreneau at davidl@lagc.org LAKE CHARLES: We are fresh off the heels of the Critical Issues Summit and just had our first quarterly meeting. It should be a great party and LAGC is as excited as can be to be hosting the 100th party. Mark your calendars! The annual LAGC Crawfish Boil is Thursday, April 26th. Lake Charles had the biggest crawfish boil in the state last year and we hope to grow it bigger and better every year. So don’t forget to register and bring friends/prospective members. We’re also raising money to help McNeese with a new fence for the women’s softball program so expect to hear from me soon in an effort to help out the local team. Have a Happy and Safe Mardi Gras. For additional information please contact David Landreneau at davidl@lagc.org NEW ORLEANS: Leading up to, and congruent with AGC’s Critical Issues Summit the New Orleans District has continued its efforts to ensure healthy association growth, good relationships with municipal owners, and a strong voice on the issues that directly affect our members. Despite the onset of the Mardi Gras season and the area’s preparation for the weeklong shutdown, this district has been busy on the following: • Keeping dialogue open with the City of New Orleans to safeguard our expectation of strict adherence to rules governing the city’s bid practices and DBE policies. In the event the City feels the need to alter or deviate from the rules, we wanted to make sure we maintained our seat at the table during those discussions. • Approved the participation goals on SWB projects that are to be advertised for bid in the coming weeks. • Continued to pursue an audience with the incoming administration regarding guidance on the progress of the infrastructure program that has seen heavy delays. We intend to host Mayor Elect Cantrell at our next district meeting which will be announced soon. • Bolstered membership. Under the direction of Mr. Ken Naquin, the district is adamant about continuing to provide uncanny value to our members. We will continue in this commitment every day we are here. For additional information please contact Andre Kelly at andrek@lagc.org Northwest Region: Includes Shreveport, Monroe, and Alexandria Districts SHREVEPORT: Shreveport has had a busy start to the new year. In addition to talks concerning the exciting merger, the Shreveport District held its first quarterly meeting. This meeting went great with presentations from Darrell Cahoon on legislative updates and Steve Ellsworth on 401k Status. Also, CEO Ken Naquin gave a presentation on the status and vision of LAGC in 2018 as well the issues the organization is facing. As we put the first district meeting behind us, please mark your calendars for the upcoming crawfish boil on April the 5th at the AGC office in Shreveport, and the annual golf tournament on May 7th at Southern Trace Golf Club! Future details to come on both events. For additional information please contact Wes Mouk at: wesm@lagc.org MONROE: Monroe started out the year strong with a great mixer at the Portico Restaurant on the 24th. This mixer was to be preceded by a district meeting but due to inclement weather, this meeting had to be moved. In other news, the CETF has presented the School of Construction at ULM and LA Tech with a generous check to help members(student and faculty) with expenses of getting to the national convention the end of the month. This is exciting as this is the first time the national has convention has been held in Louisiana in many years. Please mark your calendars for the upcoming golf tournament on April 23rd at Calvert Crossing. This tournament is to the benefit of scholarship programs across Northeast Louisiana, and is always a great time. For additional information please contact Wes Mouk at: wesm@lagc.org ALEXANDRIA: Alexandria Started the year with the first District Meeting at on January 31st at the Oakwing Country Club. There was a packed house, and Ken Naquin gave a great outlook of the plans for LAGC in 2018 to the members as well as the introduction of the new area manager, Wes Mouk. As we put the first district meeting behind us, please mark your calendars for the Annual Crawfish boil coming up on April 19th at the farmers market. More information and registration to come!
