This article contains important industry information in areas throughout the state. This article covers events that occurred during the 2 week period of April 23- May4th, 2018. SOUTHEAST AREA: Includes Baton Rouge & Greater New Orleans Baton Rouge: The Baton Rouge area has been very active at the State Legislature in recent weeks. Louisiana AGC is fighting for additional highway funding as well as trying to pass legislation requiring interest on late payments made by public owners. We are thankful to the support of our members from around the state in our efforts to pass this legislation. In the next couple of weeks the Baton Rouge District will be hosting meetings here at the temporary office. On Wednesday, May 16th we will be holding a District Meeting at 11:30 am discussing recent case law with lawyer Matt Emmons. On the 17th Louisiana AGC is hosting our Future Leaders group to discuss recent events within the Association. For additional information please contact Michael Demouy at michaeld@lagc.org New Orleans: Although the focus in the New Orleans District has been preparing for the newest administration to finally take over after an extended ‘lame duck’ period following the election in November, the district has been busy laying the groundwork for a productive remainder of the year. Aside from shoring up member roles and making strides to expand and welcome in new members, the district boasts a number of successful events. The 2018 Crawfish Boil was a huge success. The venue needed to be changed last minute, but ultimately, the event went off without a hitch. We would like to especially thank all those that attended, and Event Restroom with Mr. Edgar Lazaro, for their generous contribution that ensured the event’s overall smoothness. In addition, the New Orleans district helped plan an upcoming event that will highlight the future of infrastructure in the southeastern part of the state. Partners include the Governor’s Office, the City of New Orleans, DOTD, LEDC, New Orleans Public Belt Railroad, and other pertinent entities. The event will be held May 17th at the Port of New Orleans. The event is free, and if interested, please see this link to register: https://infrastructureweeksoutheasternsummit.eventbrite.com Then, on May 24th, the district will host an event regarding updates to the AIA documents. Registration for this event is being circulated currently. And finally, on May 31st, the district is expecting to host the incoming Mayor and her department heads at our district meeting. Information on this is forthcoming.
