The first is regarding the FEMA settlement and the allocation that has been under audit for some time now. The Department of Homeland Security has decided to leave the entirety of these funds unthreatened for de-obligation. Please see the article below: https://www.theadvocate.com/new_orleans/news/article_4ff80566-86db-11e8-a127-fb91c782e861.html Also, on the heels of our conversations and meetings with SWB, the Board has agreed to reinstitute customer shutoffs as a punitive measure to address the financial straits it’s recently been under. Please see the following: https://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2018/07/water_bill_dispute_resolution.html#incart_river_index Although the Construction Review Committee will not meet this month due to a lack of projects to be considered, moving forward, this reverse in practice will ensure the Board will be capable of keeping current and future projects active. PLEASE BE REMINDED ABOUT THE UPCOMING DISTRICT MEETING WITH THE PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE PLAYERS SCHEDULED FOR NEXT TUESDAY. (July 24th, at Audubon Clubhouse Café). **Registration reminder will be sent out again tomorrow** LAFAYETTE: Plans are in in full gear for our annual charity event. The charity that we are supporting this year is the Unplanned Pregnancy Center. We will be holding a golf tournament on September 7th at the Wetlands Golf Course. You can find registration information on the LAGC website or call David Landreneau at 337-884-4735. Additionally, our next quarterly meeting is set. We will be meeting on Wednesday, August 29th, at Don’s Seafood downtown. We will meet at 11:30 as usual. The speaker will be determined soon as will the registration website at lagc.org under the events tab. LAKE CHARLES: Our next quarterly meeting has been planned and will be held on Thursday, August 30th, at the Harlequin Restaurant. As usual the meeting will begin at 11:30. Also, plans are under way for our annual Clay Shoot. The event will be held early in October and will be at the Lake Charles Gun Club. We will be supporting the Autism Services of Southwestern LA. The registration website is not active yet but I will let y’all know as soon as it is. SHREVEPORT: With the most recent district meeting behind us, the AGC continues to stay in touch with local legislative affairs in the district. The AGC continues to monitor the development and integration of the universal building code into commercial standards by the metropolitan planning commission (MDC). Although changes have been proposed, no concrete resolutions have gone into effect. We will continue to monitor the progression of this as it develops. More information can be found at http://www.shreveportchamber.org/. Another development in the works in Shreveport is a potential partnership between the AGC and the Strategic Action Council of Northwest Louisiana. The SAC is looking to partner with AGC contractors to integrate an apprenticeship program in the four parish region. Events coming up in Shreveport include the next District meeting set for Tuesday, September 11th. Ken Simonson, chief economist for the AGC of America will be in to give a presentation. For more information please contact Wes Mouk at wesm@lagc.org. MONROE: In the Monroe District the AGC continues to stay involved with chamber functions, legislative affairs, and the ULM SOCM. One important issue under consideration is that the Monroe chamber plans to propose a property tax to fund infrastructure spending in the downtown development district. This 3 mil property tax looks to raise 18 million dollars through the coming years if passed. For any information regarding the property tax increase, please go to http://www.monroe.org/. Future events coming up include Governor John Bel Edwards coming up to give a state of the state address on August 28th. Also coming up, the next district meeting is set for August 12th. For more information please contact Wes Mouk at wesm@lagc.org. ALEXANDRIA: Coming up later this year, please mark your calendars for the annual Golf Tournament. This event will be held on October 12th at the Oak Wing Golf course. All tournament proceeds go to support scholarships for students in the local area. Please register online or contact Wes Mouk at wesm@lagc.org for teams. Also coming up is the next district meeting set for September 13th. More details concerning the meeting will be out in the coming weeks.
